Budget cuts and an increased focus on testing and test prep have led to a pronounced narrowing of the curriculum in public schools. Big cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle are advancing ambitious plans to expand access to arts education and creative learning.
Now, it is New York City’s turn. Over 95 of the city's arts, education and civic organizations have signed a statement outlining a vision for arts and creativity in city schools and have called on leaders to ensure equal opportunity to high-quality arts instruction.
